Movie Master connects straight into AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude Code. Once it's connected, you just say what you want: "Shoot a 10-second rainy-night chase with Lin Hao, quote me first", "Review the takes in this project", "Check the structure of this scene" — the assistant looks things up in Movie Master, writes the prompt and gives you a quote, and only generates once you confirm.
The connection uses MCP (Model Context Protocol), the common standard AI assistants use to talk to outside tools. You don't need to understand it — set it up once with the steps below and you're done.
What you need
- A Movie Master Auteur plan or above.
- An AI assistant account — either of these:
- ChatGPT: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu.
- Claude Code (Claude in the terminal, popular with people who write code).
Neither needs an API key — while connecting you're sent back to Movie Master to sign in, and you just press Allow.
Option 1: ChatGPT
1. ChatGPT → Settings → Apps → Advanced settings → turn on Developer mode.
In a company or school workspace, an admin may first need to allow creating custom MCP connectors in the workspace settings.
2. On the same settings page press Add custom connector, name it "Movie Master" and paste this URL:
https://filmai.ai/api/mcp/mcp
Choose OAuth for authentication.
3. After saving you're sent to Movie Master's authorization page — sign in, check it's the app you meant to connect, and press Allow.
4. Start a new chat → + in the input box → More → Developer mode → pick "Movie Master". Then just start talking.
⚠️ ChatGPT renames its menus often. If you can't find something, search the settings page for "connector" or "Developer mode".
Option 2: Claude Code (one-step official plugin)
Type these into Claude Code, one after another:
/plugin marketplace add donniepai-ai/filmai-plugins
/plugin install filmai@filmai
/mcp
The last line lists your connections — pick plugin:filmai:filmai → Authenticate → sign in to Movie Master in your browser → press Allow.
Browser didn't open? On Claude Code's authentication screen, press c to copy the URL and paste it into your browser's address bar. If the browser shows a connection error after you press Allow, copy the whole URL from the address bar (it starts with http://localhost:…/callback?code=…), paste it back into Claude Code at URL > and press Enter.
Besides the connection, the plugin ships a director's guide: it tells Claude which feature to use when, and to always quote before generating.
If you previously added a filmai connection by hand with the same URL, it hides the plugin's connection from the
/mcplist — remove the old one first withclaude mcp remove.
Using Cursor, Codex or another tool? Go to the Agent access section of your Movie Master account page, create a key, and paste in the config example shown there.
Claude on the web (claude.ai)
⚠️ Connections are currently unreliable: claude.ai's custom connectors may show "Couldn't connect" or "Authorization failed" after you authorize. If that happens, use ChatGPT or Claude Code for now — we'll update this section once it works reliably.
What you can say once connected
Just describe the result you want in plain language — the assistant picks the features itself:
| You say | The assistant |
|---|---|
| "How many credits do I have left?" | Checks your balance |
| "How much would ten 5-second shots cost?" | Gives a quote that matches what will actually be charged |
| "Use Lin Hao from my Casting library and shoot a 10-second rainy-night chase" | Takes Lin Hao's face from Casting as a reference → writes the prompt → quotes → generates only after you confirm |
| "Check this scene" (paste the script) | Diagnoses the structure with five elements, points out the weakest spot and the smallest fix, and only rewrites once you agree |
| "Review the takes in my Rainy Night project" | Watches each take and flags twins, look drift, swapped positions, broken physics and more, then gives you a reshoot list |
| "Make a concept image of a cyberpunk street" | Generates it in the Darkroom |
| "Add a line of narration to this part" | Generates the sound in the Recording Studio |
Three one-click workflows
In Claude Code, type / to see three ready-made workflows — click one, fill in a field or two, and it starts (if ChatGPT doesn't show this menu, just ask in plain words — it works the same):
- 導演審片 · Director's Review (
director_review): pick a project; the assistant reviews every take and gives you a reshoot list. - 劇本健檢 · Script Doctor (
script_doctor): paste a script; the assistant diagnoses the structure and lists fixes. - 拍一場戲 · Shoot a Scene (
shoot_scene): say what the scene is about; the assistant takes it from casting, through the prompt and the quote, all the way to the finished shot.
The assistant remembers how you work
When it connects, the assistant reads your director's style: the models, quality, aspect ratios and durations you use most, and the reasons you most often throw a take away. When you don't specify something, it follows your habits; when it reviews takes, it checks first for the problems you care about most. This is worked out automatically from your generation and review history — there's no form to fill in.
Credits and safety
- Anything that costs credits is always confirmed with you first. Before generating video, images or sound, the assistant gives you a quote, and the AI assistant itself also asks for confirmation.
- Only your own media is used as reference. Images and videos from the web can't be used directly — upload them to your Library first.
- Disconnect any time. In the key list under Agent access on your Movie Master account page, each connected assistant has a key named after it. Press Revoke to disconnect.
- Set a daily cap if you like. In the same place you can give each key a daily credit cap as a safety rail.
- Failed generations are refunded automatically.
⚠️ The long-film tools aren't available to AI assistants yet.
FAQ
Q: Do I need a paid ChatGPT or Claude plan?
ChatGPT needs Plus or above to add a custom connector; Claude Code needs a paid Claude plan or an API account.
Q: The assistant says my plan doesn't include MCP?
Movie Master needs the Auteur plan or above. Once your plan qualifies, your existing connection comes back on its own — no need to reconnect.
Q: How long does generation take?
Video takes as long as it does on the website. The assistant tracks progress and gives you the link when it's ready; you can also check the Shoot page or Studio on the site.
Q: Where does what the assistant makes end up?
All in your Movie Master account: videos in Studio or the short-film project you named, images in the Darkroom, sound in the Recording Studio.
Q: Will my content be used for training?
Movie Master doesn't train models on your content. But your conversations, and the results the assistant receives, pass through the AI assistant you chose (ChatGPT, Claude and so on) and are handled under its own policies.
